XOP 2.1 BETA FOR UNIX (Installation notes)
               ==========================================

Supported platforms (minimum release) and XOP file to install:
--------------------------------------------------------------

    IBM Intel x86 Linux ( kernel >= 2.2) : xop2.1Beta3_Linux.tar.gz 
    SUN SPARC Solaris 8                  : xop2.1Beta3_Solaris.tar.gz


Installation instructions:
--------------------------

	1) Download the file to the root directory where
	you want to install xop 
	example:
	  cd /users/me/programs
	  cp /cdrom/Install-Unix/xop2.1Beta3_Linux.tar.gz .
	2) extract the files (a directory called xop2.1 will be created)
	  <> Linux: tar xvfz xop2.1Beta3_<arch>.tar.gz 
	  <> Unix: gunzip xop2.1Beta3_<arch>.tar.gz 
                   tar xvf xop2.1Beta3_<arch>.tar
	3) Change directory to the new created directory and edit
	the script file "xop". Place your installation path in the
	environment variable "XOP_HOME"
	4) run xop by entering:
	  ./xop
	5) If wanted, include the xop directory (or a link to the
	xop script) in your path.
        6) For installing one or more XOP extensions, once you have
        installed XOP see the Extensions directory. 


Upgrade from XOP2.1Beta1 (or XOP2.1Beta2) to XOP2.1 Beta3
---------------------------------------------------------

	Users that previously installed XOP2.1 Beta 1 or 2 can update to Beta 2 
	without downloading and reinstalling the full package. For that,
	 update files are available:

	1) Download the file UpdateXop2.1Beta3_<arch>.tar.gz to 
	   YOUR MAIN XOP directory (IMPORTANT!)
	2) Execute from YOUR MAIN XOP directory:
		gunzip UpdateXop2.1Beta3_<arch>.tar.gz
		tar xvf UpdateXop2.1Beta3_<arch>.tar
	3) Edit the script file "xop". Place your installation path in the
		environment variable "XOP_HOME"
