ESRF Data handling philosophy

• A central facility (NICE)

• File server of 10 Tbytes with data backup

• No data archiving (files deleted after 30 days !)

• Performance is 7 MB/s for 100 Mbit/s connections

• Higher bandwidth via point-to-point connections (Gigabit)

• Linux cluster (40 nodes) as compute server

• Data exported via DAT, DVD or ftp

• High speed data acquisition (20 MB/s) today only achieved locally

• Local computation on the increase

• Data reduction and exporting should be part of data acquisition
